AFRICA'S LARGEST SINGLE ROOFTOP SOLAR PROJECT, owned by Helios Solar Company, a subsidiary of LMI Holdings, a privately owned Ghanaian conglomerate.
The project is situated in the Tema Free Zone Enclave and will supply 16.82 megawatts of energy to Enclave Power Company, another subsidiary of LMI Holdings.
This significant achievement by Helios Solar underscores its commitment to facilitating Ghana’s industrialisation ambitions and represents a milestone in the country’s renewable energy sector.

The project funding is part of a $30 million facility from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the provision of clean power and water. This funding supports job creation, greener and more sustainable industrial development.
The solar plant is expected to reduce Ghana’s emissions by approximately 13,000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.

The PV Solar project involved the installation of 29,262 solar panels utilising the latest N-type technology across a rooftop area of 95,754 m² at the International Warehousing Company Mega Warehouse in the Tema Freezone.
A total of 128 Ghanaian nationals were directly employed in the implementation of the project, highlighting its contribution to local job creation.
Construction phase
The solar plant is expected to produce 24,750 MWh of clean, stable and sustainable electricity annually. This amount of power is equivalent to the annual consumption of 55,000 homes, demonstrating the plant's capacity to generate a significant amount of electricity.
The project was engineered by Ghanaian-based firms Dutch and Co. (D&C) and Blossom Enbel Ventures (BEVL) and were responsible for the photovoltaic (PV) and grid interconnection respectively.

These firms served as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors. Their combined expertise ensured the project adhered to international standards and significantly advanced Ghana's renewable energy infrastructure.
The Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Hon. Herbert Krapa commissioned the project on July 25th, 2024. This marked the beginning of a new era in Ghana's Energy sector, with the project set to make a lasting impact on the country's environmental and economic landscape.

Solar and Water Treatment Plants
The $30 million loan from the IFC is part of a $50 million investment to develop a solar farm and water treatment plant: The solar plant will provide power to businesses operating within the Tema Free Zones Enclave while the Dawa Water Treatment Plant is the first phase of a 45,000 cubic meters per day water supply system to serve the Dawa City Development.
This project will source water from the lower Volta River. The system includes an 18.8-kilometer and 630mm diameter high-pressure raw water pipeline and an 8-kilometer treated water pipeline to the Dawa Industrial Zone.
