She said the police received information that the bearer of a mobile phone with the number 0244164462 was sending text messages to students and other people that the military would be embarking on an enlistment exercise in January 2015.

In the text messages, the sender directed interested persons to get in touch with him for the necessary processes.

She said the police, through their intelligence gathering, monitored the activities of the suspect, who happened to be the owner of the phone number.

“Because he was arrested while he was in his car, the Toyota Corolla was immediately searched and GH¢4,320 and some items were found in it,” she said.

She said some of the items retrieved included a truncheon, a pair of handcuffs, a toy pistol, two Motorola sets and a set of military uniform.

In all, 33 GAF recruitment forms, two Ghana Police Service forms and two forms labelled Midwifery and Nursing application  were also found in his possession.

The police also found a number of passport pictures and the personal details of people suspected to have been duped.
