Police arrest another Denu fugitive

One of the seven persons who escaped from the Denu police cells has been rearrested. The latest arrest brings to four the number of fugitives who have been re-arrested after their escape from the Denu police cells.

The police have also retrieved one of the two AK47 assault rifles that the fugitives bolted with.

Three of the escapees were re-arrested at Aflao last Wednesday, while the fourth one was re-arrested in the Republic of Togo last Friday with the help of the police of that country.

The names of the first three are Stanley Wada Kabee, Kwaku Azasu and George.

The latest re-arrested fugitive is Linus Ashietey.

The four fugitives were among seven who were said to have overpowered two policemen on duty and made away with two AK 47 assault rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.

With the arrest of the four, it is now left with three fugitives, the retrieval of the AK 47 rifle and the 25 rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, the two policemen who were on duty at the time of the escape have been interdicted, in accordance with Ghana Police Service regulations, for failing to produce the escapees within 10 days.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, has given an assurance that the police are leaving no stone unturned in their determination re-arrest all the escapees and retrieve the weapon.
