Millennium Marathon launches ‘Health and Fitness Index’ to promote corporate wellness

Organisers of the annual Millennium Marathon race have extended it’s campaign on the benefits of fitness, wellness, and community engagement beyond road running into corporate spaces by launching the ‘Health & Fitness Index’.

It is a purported annual ranking of corporate organisations by their overall health and wellbeing credentials, as well as to assess how they prioritise workplace wellness.

In alignment with it’s broader mission to promote wellness, active lifestyles, and community development across Ghana’s corporate world, the Millennium Marathon held an innovative Corporate Wellness Forum in Accra on Thursday that brought together corporate leaders, HR professionals, and wellness experts to champion healthier, more productive workplaces. It focused on employee health, workplace productivity, and a culture of wellness.

Guest speaker was Programmes Manager for KGL Foundation, Nii Sarpei Annorbah Ankornu as participants experienced expert-led sessions on physical fitness, mental health, nutrition, and stress management.

It also entailed interactive workshops on workplace wellness strategies and team-building activities as well as networking opportunities for executives, HR managers, and wellness professionals.

Event organisers asserted that physical activity boosts productivity, as highlighted in the international research conducted by Harvard Business Review, 2018 which revealed that employees who exercise regularly have 21 per cent higher productivity and 27 per cent lower absenteeism.

In addition, they also alluded to a 2021 survey conducted by the Ghana Employers Association which indicated that one in four employees reported stress or burnout at work.

This in turn affected team collaboration and overall efficiency.

“Corporate wellness is no longer optional — it’s a business imperative,” said Cathy Morton, CEO of Millennium Marathon.

“Through this forum, we aim to equip businesses with actionable insights and strategies to prioritise employee wellbeing, boost productivity, and reduce workplace stress.”

The forum, consisting of 3 panels centred discussions on trending workplace wellness topics, practical tips for implementation, and success stories from companies that have championed employee health initiatives.

The first panel discussed: ‘Integrating Wellness into Corporate Culture’, with speakers being industry leaders Salah Kalmoni, Executive Director at Silver Star Tower, Andrea Akl, Deputy General Manager at Qualiplast Ltd and Noalina Kuukua Slippi-Mensah, Head of Human Capital at Investcorp Ghana.

The second panel focused on ‘Work Life Integration in the Modern Corporate World’, featuring Gideon Ataraire, CEO Impact Life Insurance, Kwasi Tabury, CEO MyHealthCop and Dr Elton Fredrick Afari, CEO Equity Health Insurance.

In conclusion, the third panel brought together prominent running clubs to highlight ‘Running Clubs, a Clear Pathway to Wellness.’ Gigi Rose Mann from R&R Wellness led the discussion with Ernest Bediako Sampong, Lead Partner at Runner Alliance, Kevin Atikpui, Operations Lead at Accra Active Club and Abdul-Samed Shaibu, a Runfluencer.

“We believe that healthier employees lead to stronger companies,” said Millennium Marathon Race Manager Ernest Boamah.

“This forum is an opportunity for companies to learn, connect, and take tangible steps towards building sustainable wellness programmes.”
