Financial institutions awards held in Takoradi

The Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, has lauded efforts by banks and other financial institutions in promoting savings and investments in the country.

With over 27 universal banks in the country, as well as a number of microfinance and savings and loans companies, people now have a wide array of options to save and invest their monies, which will ultimately contribute to socio-economic growth.

Speaking at the first-ever Western Regional Financial Services Excellence Awards in Takoradi, Mr Gyan also commended the rural and community banks (RCBs) for helping businesses in the informal sector to grow.

“The setting up of rural and community banks has added another dimension to the country’s financial banking system. Available evidence shows that the financial institutions have assisted both small businesses and bigger enterprises to flourish, “he said.

The awards

The awards ceremony was organised by Top Brass Ghana, under the auspices of the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), to reward financial companies that have contributed to the growth of the Western Region.

Barclays Bank Ghana Limited was adjudged the bank of the year in the gold category under universal banking.  Unibank Ghana limited took the bank of the year (customer service) award while Lower Pra Rural Bank became the overall Rural Bank of the year under Rural Banking for the same gold group, with the Nzema Manle Rural Bank being awarded the rural bank of the year (loans disbursement).

Enterprises Life was adjudged the overall life insurance company of the year in the gold category while SIC Insurance Company emerged as the overall non-life insurance company of the year under the gold category.

Other financial institutions and insurance companies, as well as other enterprises providing various financial and services were recognised and rewarded accordingly. — GB
