The 21 days of Y’ello Care campaign, is a 21-day long staff volunteerism programme in which employees across MTN’s operations across the world are encouraged to take time off to physically get involved in activities that will uplift the communities they operate in.

The theme for this year’s activities is, “Investing In Education For All”, with special focus on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) education.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Serame Taukobong, it was coherent with MTN’s new vision, to lead in the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers.

The CEO also urged staff to work hard for the $100,000 prize which would be awarded to the team with the highest number of staff and participants in their programmes whose projects had a huge impact on their communities.

According to the CEO, investing in education was a top priority for the leading telecommunications company.

“In line with our vision, MTN volunteers have chosen to build e-libraries in Accra, Kumasi and Tarkwa. These libraries will provide teachers and students with access to over 40,000 e-books from around the world and on a wide range of subjects from arts to the sciences and much more.

He added that MTN would also provide free Cloud Services to connect two unnamed tertiary institutions which would promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge.

Mr Taukobeng, however, said he was thrilled to see a project which involved staff designing and sewing school bags made from recycled MTN banners and flexi-materials for pupils across the country.

He urged MTN subscribers to contribute to the various projects by texting “Yello Care” to short code 1340 and added that proceeds would be used to purchase equipment such as laptops, tablets, modems and routers to motivate teachers in selected schools across the country.
