Uganda Airlines is entering Ghana’s aviation market from October 27 with a promotional return fare flight between Entebbe and Accra, raising the prospect of stronger price competition on travel between West and East Africa.
The Ugandan national carrier will begin four-times-weekly services on October 27, 2026 offering travellers an additional option on a market currently served by established airlines connecting through their regional hubs.
The promotional fare could put pressure on competing carriers to review their pricing, particularly for passengers travelling between Ghana and Uganda for business, leisure and family visits.
Any sustained reduction in ticket prices, however, will depend on demand, available capacity and how rival airlines respond.
For Ghanaian travellers, the entry offers a potential opportunity to compare more fares and schedules when planning trips to East African destinations. Businesses could also benefit if lower airfares make regional meetings, trade missions and commercial partnerships more affordable.
The route is relevant to efforts to deepen trade between the two regions, where the cost and convenience of air travel can influence how frequently entrepreneurs, investors and service providers meet across borders.
Improved connectivity could also support tourism exchanges, giving Ghanaian visitors another travel option to visa-free Uganda while helping Ugandan travellers access Accra’s commercial, cultural and hospitality markets.
Uganda Airlines’ entry comes as African aviation stakeholders seek to improve intra-continental connectivity and reduce dependence on indirect journeys through European and Middle Eastern hubs. Better connections are also viewed as important to the African Continental Free Trade Area’s ambitions to increase trade among African economies.
The passengers originating their travel from Accra, Ghana, the greater competition could benefit consumers.
Ticket are now on sale for the new service which will operate via Lagos, Nigeria.
