Don’t give up yet

It is now five days after Ghanaians went to the polls and selected a new president and parliamentary representatives. Thankfully, the elections were generally free and fair and conducted in a peaceful manner which proves that Ghana has indeed matured as a democracy.

As an entertainment newspaper, we followed with keen interest seven of our colleagues in the entertainment sector who were vying for parliamentary positions. We at Showbiz offered them our full support and prayers in the hope that all seven would be successful and win in their respective constituencies and go on to advance the cause of the entertainment sector in parliament.

To our disappointment only two of the seven entertainment personalities vying for positions were successful. These are Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who won the Ofoase-Ayirebi parliamentary seat and Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini who contested for the Tamale North seat.

We say kudos to the two aspirants for a job well done and call on them to be the voice and patrons of the entertainment industry in parliament. To the other aspirants who were unable to secure their respective seats we would like to wish them better luck next time. We are aware of how much time and money goes into campaigning for parliament but we urge them not to be discouraged.

Just because they failed in their first attempt does not mean they cannot win on subsequent occasions. They have to use this attempt as a basis for learning and refining their strategies for the next election in order to come back stronger. Better luck next time.
