Power consumers must pay up!

The dire state of Ghana's power sector has been a major headache to the government and a source of concern to all Ghanaians.

For about a year now the people have endured a crippling load-shedding regime, with all the costly consequences.

Poor planning and inadequate investment in power generation have contributed to the current shortfall in generation and the resultant erratic power supply.

Generation aside, the distribution sector is beset with many challenges.

The state utility distribution institution, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which is a major player in the distribution sector, has become notoriously inefficient, unable to effectively confront the challenges facing it.

The reality continues to show that the ECG's poor performance has roots in its inability to collect  bills from consumers.
