Thumbs up to DKB and friends

Throughout the years, Graphic Showbiz has constantly championed the cause of Ghanaian comedy and it is uplifting to see how far it has come. 

Previously there was almost no faith in Ghanaian comedy and many people would not even volunteer their time to watch a comedy performance featuring Ghanaian comedians even if it were for free. 

With the exception of the legendary KSM and the likes of Bob Okala, Nkomode etc from the days of Concert Party, Ghana did not have much to boast about by way of comedy greats. We at Showbiz believe that the comedians in the country deserve much applause for their determination and resilience. 

Even when event organisers preferred to headline their events with Nigerian acts, they still believed in themselves and have proved to everyone that they deserve to rub shoulders with the very best in the world. 

DKB’s ‘Point of View’ event received a lot of hype and he lived up to the hype with an amazing performance. His fellow acts who performed alongside him delivered amazing performances as well. We doubt if there was anyone in the audience who regretted spending their Saturday night at the National Theatre. 

What Ghanaian comedy needs is more of such high-profile events which will live up to the hype and then they can finally get the recognition we deserve. It’s a shame that many of the corporate sponsors who promised their support pulled out at the last moment. 

They should not be discouraged because we know that it’s only a matter of time and these same companies will come begging to sponsor events once they realise how much can be made from them. Well done once again.
