Stonebwoy: Let’s look beyond GH

Multiple-award winning dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has asked his colleague Ghanaian artistes to look at getting recognition beyond the shores of Ghana in order to boost their profiles.

Stonebwoy told Showbiz in an interview on Monday that from his observation from his recent travels across the globe; he had noticed that Ghanaian acts had not yet achieved the international status accorded other artistes from neighbouring countries.

Stonebwoy, who won the Best International Act, Africa at the just ended BET Awards, advised that in order to achieve the level set by other international acts, Ghanaian artistes would have to push to get their music and brands onto international circles.

“It’s a fact that Ghanaian artistes are not known out there very much and there is no need to pretend or dispute this. What we have to do is to push our brands and that is what I aim to do, one day at a time,” he said.

Stonebwoy who just returned from South Africa, after attending the MTV Africa Music Awards(MAMAs), where he lost the award of Best New Act to Patoranking of Nigeria said he would be concentrating on promoting his brand to higher heights.

He confirmed to Showbiz that he used the opportunity he spent outside the country to work on a number of collaborations with some international acts, which he would be releasing in the coming days.

Stonebwoy, along with some Ghanaian acts such as Becca, Sarkodie, Efya, Wiyaala, R2bees and Kwabena Kwabena are among some internationally-recognised music stars from Africa and around the globe who will be honoured for their contribution to African music at the second edition of the African Muzik Magazine Awards(AFRIMMA) ceremony slated for Texas, USA,in October 10, 2015.

Stonebwoy has been nominated in three categories— Best Male West African Act, Best Dancehall Artiste and Song of the Year.
