Chris wins Vodafone Icons contest

The final of the Vodafone Icons Mixed Edition music talent reality show has been won by Christopher Owusu, popularly called Chris. The singer and performer came up tops on the judges’ score cards when the 13-week competition ended at the National Theatre last Wednesday night.

In a keenly contested final which involved four others, Cina, Titi, Ratty and Alice, the performance of Chris in both rounds of the evening were very delightful and made it easy for the full house audience to cheer him to victory.

Singing a song titled ‘’Ada’’ by Flavour and his own composition titled ‘’Forever’’, Chris appeared to have brought his experience gained in his earlier participation in similar talent competitions to run ahead and take the prize car and GH¢100,000 recording deal.

While Chris’ success may not have come as a surprise, the eviction of fine singer Cina, after the first round was totally unexpected. Cina, described as “technically the best singer in the competition”, performed very well on the night singing ‘’Chandelier’’ by Sia but public votes failed her as she did not garner enough votes to see her through to the final round.

In second place came Titi who picked up the Best Act of the night prize. She was described by an independent assessor as “a very jovial person  who oozes music”. The third place was won by Alice, the lady with “a unique style of vocal delivery”.  Both of them had recording deals for prizes.

In a pre-recorded video message played at the show, the Marketing Director of Vodafone, Agnes Essah, expressed her satisfaction at the success of the Vodafone Icons project and reiterated her company’s commitment to the development of creative talent among Ghanaian youth.

The Vodafone Icons Remix Edition was produced by Evolution and the final episode will be aired on selected television platforms over this weekend.
