Davido and Chioma's son dies

Nigerian singer, Davido has lost his three-year-old son in a drowning tragedy at their Banana Island home in Lagos.

Ifeanyi Adeleke’s death last Monday night comes few days after the celebration of his third birthday on October 20.

The deceased was said to have been under the water for a long time before he was discovered and rushed to a hospital in the Lekki area of Lagos State, where he was confirmed dead.

Reports also indicate that Davido and the boy’s mother, Chioma were away on an outing, while the boy was left in the care of his minders when the unfortunate incident happened.

The death of Ifeanyi started as rumours on social media last night appeared but later gained some truth when a number of Nigerian entertainers including comedian AY and actress Eniola Badmus confirmed on their social media.

However, there were still conflicting reports on social media but by morning on Tuesday, most of the popular Nigerian bloggers like Linda Ikeji, Instablog as well as credible websites such as Vanguard had reported about the death.

 Following the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, Nigerian website, Daily Post reported on Tuesday that the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that all members of the singer’s domestic staff are currently in police custody.

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this to Daily Post om Tuesday morning after reports of Ifeanyi’s death went viral.

Speaking with Daily Post on the unfortunate incident, the Lagos PPRO said preliminary investigation is currently ongoing to unravel what led to the boy’s death.

He said, “Domestic staff at Davido’a home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet.

“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, if anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest”.

Ifeanyi’s death comes four years after Davido consoled fellow Nigerian singer, D’banj when his son also drowned in a pool in their home.

Davido, in June 2018 offered his condolences to D’banj while receiving his BET Award for Best International Act.

CNN reported at the time that D’banj was also attending the BET Awards in Los Angeles when news broke of his one year old son’s death at their home in the Ikoyi, suburb of Lagos.
