Davido puts $500,000 price tag on Wizkid reunion

Afrobeats star Davido has reignited conversations about his long-standing rivalry with fellow Nigerian musician Wizkid, saying a joint tour by the two artistes could sell out venues across the world, with each show fetching him $500,000.

Davido made the revelation during an appearance on the IONWANNATALK show, where he discussed the possibility of recording music and embarking on a joint tour with Wizkid.

Although uncertain about whether a collaboration between them would produce a hit, Davido was confident that their combined star power would make a joint tour a commercial success.

“If Wizkid and I do a song together, I don’t know if it will pop because when D’banj and 2Baba did a record together, it didn’t really pop,” he said.

However, he was more optimistic about touring together, declaring: “If we tour together, I’ll ask for $500,000 per show because I know every venue will sell out.”

The comments have brought renewed attention to the relationship between the two Afrobeats heavyweights, whose perceived rivalry has remained a talking point among fans and followers of African music.

Davido disclosed that he and Wizkid had not recorded a song together in about 10 years, insisting that their lack of collaboration was not necessarily because they could not work together.

He explained that he had not been in the same mental space as Wizkid, while acknowledging differing opinions about the impact of their rivalry on their individual careers.

While some believe their perceived competition has helped elevate their profiles, others argue that a collaboration could open another chapter in their musical journeys.

On whether he had moved past some of the disagreements between them, Davido suggested that people could outgrow certain feelings and learn to move on.

“I felt that way at some point but not anymore, and it takes a great man to do that,” he said.

Whether the two stars will eventually put their differences aside for a joint project remains to be seen, but Davido's comments have once again raised the prospect of one of Afrobeats' most anticipated musical partnerships.
