Eat Ghana, Yummy Ghana

IT’S time to ‘Eat Ghana’ on our pages today as we continue celebrating Heritage Month in March. Ghana is home to a variety of delicious foods with high nutritional values which whet diners’ appetite any day.

With the abundance of tropical foods such as corn, beans, millet, plantain, cassava among others, Ghanaians use these ingredients to create delicious dishes.

That is not all, beyond merely providing nutrition, the ingredients, preparation techniques and effort reveal a variety of cultural beliefs, customs and practices of the various tribes in Ghana.

Some time ago, certain foods were the preserve of particular tribes but that longer holds. Our local foods are widely enjoyed.

Also, gone were the days when our local dishes hardly made the menu at social gatherings.

These days, people treat their taste buds to everything Ghana at parties, weddings, outdoorings, luncheons etc. So it is common to see guests make a beeline for local dishes at events in recent times.

Just name them—fufu and soup, tuo-zaafi, banku and okro stew or soup, jollof, gari foto, ampesi and abomu, apapransa, konkonte, kenkey and fish etc.

So come along, let’s explore a few dishes that will introduce you to local Ghanaian dishes. Enjoy.
