Playing many shows not equal to money —S3fa

MUCH has not been seen of her in recent times giving way to conversations she might be ‘ebbing’ but Afrobeats act, S3fa, debunks that impression pointing out that mounting every public stage doesn’t mean an artiste is still hot or is even making it financially.

She has not been performing all over the place not because her vibes have gone cold, but rather, she has realised private gigs rake in very good money and it is where she has been plying her trade lately.

The E Choke hitmaker explained to Graphic Showbiz in a chat on Monday, June 26, 2023, that people often assume musicians who play a lot of shows make loads of money but that is not entirely true.

“Although you see a musician moving from one show to the other doesn’t mean he or she is still relevant and making money as well. Some musicians play shows for free, especially during festive seasons. Sometimes, playing at a show is an avenue to promote one’s new album or a single or to entertain fans who have not seen you in a long while.”

“However, it will interest you to know that a musician who plays a few private shows makes more money than a musician who plays 20 public shows” she added.

According to S3fa, she is now more into private shows and she is making good returns. “Yes I might be on the low for now but I am still relevant and making the cash through the private shows I play these days. Don’t get it twisted but if the public shows come along fine, but if they don’t, I am cool because I am earning a good living from my private gigs,” she stated.

Away from performances, S3fa pointed out that making music was an energy-zapping enterprise thus musicians should be accorded the needed respect.

“I believe music is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. To write a song, record and finally push it with a lot of money to become a hit is not a small job. Some musicians have even gone through depression putting in the works just to make sure their songs are bangers but are yet to see the results.”

“For me, to constantly get a hit song is by the grace of God. I always say it is God because there are very talented musicians who have great songs but are struggling to get hits”, she added.

Touching on what she’s been up to concerning music, S3fa disclosed she was almost done with her EP titled Body Of Work which should be ready by the end of the year.

“I am proud to announce to my fans that Body Of Work is almost ready and I know Ghanaians will love it. It is different. Working with different sound engineers and artistes on the EP was a great experience. Body Of Work has a very different vibe”, she added.

S3fa, born Sefadzi Abena Amesu, started her music career as a singer performing with live bands at bars, pubs and events in Accra. In 2017, she was signed by record label, Black Avenue Muzik after its CEO, D-Black, reached out to her via Instagram. She released her debut single Marry Me featuring Jupiter.

Her single, E Choke, featuring Mr Drew was dropped on April 16, 2021. The song became popular due to its choreographed dance and music video which became a trend and music challenge on TikTok and Instagram.

S3fa grabbed Afrobeats Song of the Year award with E Choke at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
