Last Friday, Isaac Gozah and Ama Afansa Abedi emerged tops at the final event which was held at the Independence Square in Accra. Kumasi and Accra have already taken turns to win the contest.

Last Friday, there were two rounds in all; the first round had the 12 competing couples performing the moves that were shown on TV. They were judged based on showmanship, creativity, energy and style.

After that segment, six couples made it to the next round where they were caught on the spot and tasked to form a dance to a particular song within 25 minutes and while they were doing that, the man from the Volta Regime, Edem held the fort with his average performance.

Isaac Gozah and Ama Afansa Abedi put up some highly imaginative salsa dance fusion dances and their showmanship on the day endeared them to many of the patrons including the judges.

They won Gh¢ 8,000 and a hamper from Unilever. Two groups from Accra, Emmanuel Arthur and Effani Banini, Noah Doe and Pascaline P. Inkoom also won the prize for Most Fabulous Looking Couple and Most Entertaining Couple, which came with a cash prize Gh¢ 2,000 and Gh¢ 4,000 respectively.

Apart from prize money, all winners won free Beats by Dre headsets and hampers from Unilever. All participating dancers also got Gh¢200 and hampers.

The show which lasted for eight hours got the atmosphere at the Independence Square heated up for an expectant evening with some local and foreign tunes from the turntables of Joy Fm’s DJ Black.

As he has been known for in the disc jockeying business, the “house party” host left no stone unturned as he livened up the mood of the patrons to usher in the competing salsa groups.

Refuting news that went round that winners of this year’s edition will go home with a prize of Gh¢30, 000 Ghana, George Quaye Public Relations Officer of Charter House said such claim was invalid in an interview with Showbiz.

“That information out there is not accurate; we did not say the winners will take home GH¢30,000 as the media represented, that money was for the total price package thus 8,000 cedis for the winners, 4,000 cedis for the most entertaining, 2,000 cedis for the fabulous looking couple and 200 cedis for all the 24 contestants,” he said.

The salsa fusion dance is made up of easy-to-do salsa basic steps fused with local dance types such as Azonto, Alkaida and Highlife.
