The swag that is Nduom’s
He kept a cool composure and hardly spoke through much of the proceedings at the durbar to mark the 20th anniversary celebration of the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina last Saturday.
When the Winneba Youth Choir, however, struck the famous Oye tune, businessman and politician, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, could not help getting up to dance.
His freestyle dancing affected others, especially staff of the Groupe Nduom conglomerate, of which the award-winning resort is a member. The staff made a long line and joyously danced to praise God for sustaining the resort for 20 years.
The Coconut Grove Beach Resort is part of a hotel chain that includes the Miners Lodge at Obuasi, the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra and the Bridge House and Coconut Grove Village, both in Elmina.
Mrs Yvonne Nduom, Executive Chairperson of Coconut Grove Hotels, recounted how the resort started in December 1994 and later joined the workers to sing songs of happiness for how far the hospitality facility has come.
The two-day 20th anniversary celebration included a fireworks display, award of prizes for a children’s essay writing and spelling competition and a thanksgiving service.
Some of the guests the resort has hosted over the years apart from African Ministers of State, Heads of diplomatic missions and Ghana’s industry captains, include well-known American actor, Will Smith; former United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan and international tennis star, Serena Williams.
