(VIDEO) Shatta Wale’s fraud comments steal ShattaFest spotlight

A successful ShattaFest should have been the story, but Shatta Wale’s comments about fraud and alleged selective justice have stolen the spotlight from his own show.

The dancehall artiste, who held the 2026 edition of his annual ShattaFest at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 17, used his performance to question why young people suspected of fraud were being arrested while ministers accused of stealing public funds allegedly escaped similar treatment.

His remarks, which have sparked discussions on social media, have shifted attention from the concert to his views on fraud, corruption and the administration of justice in the country.

“Make I tell you, I get plenty fraud boys wey be my friends, but me, I no be snitch wey I go snitch anybody. The country no good, so if you go fraud, fraud,” he said.

Shatta Wale went on to accuse public officials of benefiting from what he considers an uneven application of the law.

“Ministers dey steal, they no dey catch them. Them dey steal our money, they no dey catch them, they dey catch young boys for Ghana,” he added.

His comments drew a distinction between young people arrested over alleged fraudulent activities and public officials accused of corruption, whom he suggested were not subjected to the same level of scrutiny.

The artiste also maintained that he would not report friends involved in fraud, citing the country’s economic difficulties as part of his argument.

While his remarks have brought renewed attention to questions about accountability and the enforcement of financial crime laws, they have also diverted attention from ShattaFest itself.

For an event that should have been remembered for its music, performances and the connection between the artiste and his fans, Shatta Wale’s comments have instead become one of its most prominent talking points.
