Yaw Dhope embarks on Afro-Highlife project
RAPPER Yaw Dhope starts an Afro-Highlife project aimed at honouring and celebrating his favourite Highlife artistes including Daddy Lumba and Dada KD.
The project starts with three songs— Don’t Miss Me, Did I Ever Complain and Till I Die. Don’t Miss Me will drop tomorrow, November 11 followed by the other two on a weekly basis.
However, after this month, subsequent songs will see him feature some ot these artistes. According to Yaw Dhope, the project will afford him the chance to publicly appreciate the works of musicians who have had a great impact on his craft.

In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, the old student of Abuakwa State College mentioned that he has always hungered for an opportunity to feature Daddy Lumba and was glad to see such prospects with the Afro Highlife project.
“It was quite embarrassing when Stormzy honoured Daddy Lumba with a customised T-shirt at the Global Citizen Festival. It occurred to me how much we have not done enough to honour the musicians we look up to.
“That informed my decision to start this Afro-Highlife project to not only pay them tributes but to also have the chance to tap from their rich expertise by working with them on a song”, he said.

In his few years as a professional artiste, Yaw Dhope has a list of songs in his repertoire—Light and Darkness, Make Money, Ladance, Riches and Envy, Flow Unlocked, Devil Knock, Sorry For Left, Close To The Ground, One Way Or The Other, Differences, Vis-a-Vis, Bad Mind Gee and Kwashieman to Labadi.
In his words, “the process to the top is hard and difficult to be accepted, especially when you don’t have a record label or professional management handling you. You have to go through the mill and that is what I’m enduring now. “Yes, the recognition is coming in bits but with my talent, I should have been far higher up there than I am now but I appreciate that what I’m going through will bring out the best of me”, he added.
