The early morning rain on the day did not in any way douse the ‘vim’ in the performers slated for the event. They came not only from Ghana but from other parts of Africa as well.

There was Philo from Cote d’Iviore, Faithful from Cameroon and Donald from South Africa. Each of them interacted delightfully with the audience and sold out memorable performances.

Donald’s ‘Hook em Up’  got the audience flowing with him and the acts from Cote d’Iviore and Cameroon gladdened many hearts when they tried their hands at Fanti.

An open mic session kicked off proceedings. Their confidence and stagecraft indicated there is a future in the arts for young people in this country.

Emcees for the festival, Two Idiots, Dr So and Jen. Ntatea, were spectacles in themselves.

Ghanaian music legend Ebo Taylor was at the event.

In a short speech, he encouraged artists to continue learning and sharpening their skills.

On the whole, it was an enlightening session, though a bigger audience would have made it even more exciting.

The organisers say they will work harder next year to attract a larger audience to the Haduwa Cultural Institute, which is a beautiful beach location.

Other performers at the festival included Kacey Moore, the Genius Hive Band and Akambo.

The key force behind the Ehalakasa movement, Sir Black, said they were happy with the strides they had made so far to get more young people to express themselves through poetry, music and dance.

“We are marching on with renewed enthusiasm and there is no limit to what we can achieve,” Sir Black stated.
