Drug abuse in Tudu-Accra Central
Drug abuse has been rampant among the youth these days. Tudu in the Accra Central area is where most of these drug addicts live and do drugs freely.
Young girls and boys between the ages of 12 to 35 years engage in this act. Most often, they are not engaged in any job and don’t have any jobs of their own to feed on.

Stealing from people who come to the market to purchase or sell is their means of livelihood. Others stand at bus stops and load the goods of people into vehicles for money.
Females are into prostitution and other immoral acts. They end up sleeping on the streets as they have no homes.
In an informal conversation, one of them said that they hardly eat, not because they don’t have what to eat, but because they have been doing drugs for a long time and have become addicted. So they have no appetite for food.
Another said they had links with some police officers while other officers feared coming to their area.
The government needs to build more rehabilitation facilities for those on drugs who need special treatments and provide opportunities for employment, training and apprenticeship to keep them occupied.
