West Hills Mall

For decades, the stretch of road linking Accra to Kasoa was largely regarded as a transit corridor—a route to somewhere else.

Today, that perception has changed dramatically, thanks largely to the presence of the West Hills Mall, a commercial landmark that has helped transform the western gateway to the capital.

Located at Dunkonah near Weija, the mall has become one of the most recognisable features along the Accra-Kasoa Highway.

Its expansive structure and sprawling parking areas stand as a symbol of the rapid urban growth that has reshaped the area over the past decade.

Constructed at a cost of about US$93 million, the three-storey facility occupies a 24-acre site and provides approximately 27,000 square metres of lettable retail space.

With about 67 retail outlets, restaurants, entertainment facilities and service providers, it remains one of the largest shopping centres in the country.

Opened on October 30, 2014, the mall ushered in a new era of organised retail development in Ghana.

The project, developed through a partnership between the Delico Property Development Limited and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), began in 2012.

It was carried out by the South African firm WBHO in collaboration with Ghanaian professionals.

Since its opening, the mall has evolved into a major commercial, social and recreational destination, serving residents of Weija, Tetegu, McCarthy Hill, Bortianor, Aplaku, Kasoa and surrounding communities.

More than a place to shop, it has become a gathering point for families, friends and visitors, reflecting the changing lifestyle of a growing urban population.

The mall's strategic location along the Accra-Kasoa Highway has been central to its success.

Complementing the development is the West Hills interchange, which provides direct access to the facility while easing traffic flow along one of the country's busiest road corridors.

Together, the mall and interchange have improved accessibility and helped stimulate commercial and residential growth in neighbouring communities.

The presence of the mall has encouraged investment in housing, commerce and infrastructure, transforming what was once a relatively quiet section of the capital's outskirts into a thriving urban zone.

New businesses and residential estates continue to emerge in the area, reflecting the steady westward expansion of Greater Accra.

Today, the West Hills Mall stands as one of Ghana's most recognisable retail landmarks.

More than a decade after its opening, it remains a symbol of the changing face of Greater Accra and the continuing development of the Accra-Kasoa corridor.
