Wassa Fiase paramount queen supports young women

The paramount queen of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council, Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, has renewed the commitment of the council to promote women’s empowerment in the area.

She said women’s empowerment was important to promote their sense of self-worth and the ability to determine their own choices.

Nana Kunadjoa stated this at a free skills training programme for 40 young women selected from the communities within the traditional area to learn how to produce liquid soap, hand sanitiser and rubbing alcohol

She said considering the vital role women played in the society, the time had come for corporate bodies and other resourced members of society to support the empowerment of women in their operational areas and beyond.

Reducing unemployment

Nana Kunadjoa said two years ago, the Nana Abena Kunadjoa Foundation was set up in the Wassa Fiase traditional area to address the needs of the less privileged in the area.

The skills acquisition programme, she said, had become necessary to reduce the level of unemployment among women and also create a sustainable avenue for financial independence.

Commendation

Nana Kunadjoa expressed the hope that the beneficiaries of the training programme would make use of every skill and knowledge learnt to impact on their lives positively and on the nation as a whole.

As a traditional ruler and a member of the traditional council, she pledged her commitment to rally support for young women in the communities through the foundation to help them contribute to the development of society.

She commended Gold Fields Ghana for the continued support towards the overall development of its operational areas.

Corporate social responsibility

The Community Affairs Manager at Gold Fields Ghana, Mr Abdul Razak, said the skills development programme fitted perfectly into what the company stood for over the years as a corporate body in the community.

The company said after the skills training, it would fully finance three trainees to further acquire more training in their chosen areas for the establishment of businesses in those areas.

One of the beneficiaries, Esther Kpein, on behalf of the others, thanked the company and the foundation for the support and said it would help them generate income to take care of their families.
