The Wisconsin International University College, Ghana has said, although third-class first-degree holders are eligible to apply for its two-year Master of Business Administration programme, admission for such applicants is not automatic.
“Unlike applicants with higher classifications, third-class graduates must go through a rigorous assessment process before gaining admission,” the university stated in a statement to throw light on the announcement by the President of the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC, GH), Professor Obeng Mireku, at the 17th congregation of the university at the Accra campus in December.
The announcement was published in the Wednesday, December 4, 2024 issue of the Daily Graphic. Related article: Wisconsin university offers 3rd Class graduates masters programme
According to the university officials, “this process includes an entrance examination to assess the applicant’s academic capability; an academic interview to determine the candidate’s readiness and suitability for postgraduate studies, as well as additional preparatory requirements, depending on the programme, to ensure students meet the expected academic standards.

Background
The President of the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC, GH), Professor Obeng Mireku, at the 17th congregation of the university at the Accra campus announced that it was admitting graduate applicants with third-class qualifications into its Masters of Business Administration programme.
He said the initiative was in response to the increased competition in the job market that had reduced the value of the first degree.
“WIUC-GH's postgraduate programmes are designed to prepare graduates for strategic leadership roles within the private and public sectors in Ghana and beyond.
“As you may be aware, increased competition in the job market has reduced the value of the first degree", he stated.
