The North America branch of the alumni also donated 20-laptop computers and accessories to the school’s library for use by the students.

At the handover ceremony, the National President of the Association, Adwowa Munku Dako, said the completion of the chemistry laboratory was one of the three projects the alumni intended to work on.

“The current project, which was initially estimated at the cost of ¢300,000, has within a short time increased to more than ¢700,000 but the association managed to complete it,” she said.

Two more

The national association, she said, remained committed to the remaining two, to be tackled to support education in the school.

She commended the old students for their commitment to the project and urged the students and management of the school to take good care of it to serve its purpose.

The Headmistress of Sekondi College, Mrs Guddy Abena Kermah said the move by the old students was welcoming since its three science laboratories before the project were not fit for purpose.

The projects by the old students, when completed, she said, would position the three science labs fit-for-purpose, fitted with modern science equipment.

“We are happy to say that the first phase of this massive project has led to the transformation of our hitherto, lacklustre chemistry lab into a state-of-the-art chemistry facility,” she said.

The project by the old students, she said, was important, at the time that the emphasis was on STEM education, coupled with the strenuous efforts to participate in National Science and Maths Quiz competitions and other national education activities.

The noble intention of the old students, she said, was no doubt a testament to the resolve of the alumni to drive the excellence agenda in all the endeavours of the school.

“Such devoted preoccupation with the progress of one's alma mater, I dare say, is the envy of our sister institutions.”  “We therefore want to assure our alumni that we would ensure proper care of the facility and items,” she said.
