The ceremony, which took place last Wednesday, ushered 567 fresh students into various academic faculties and programmes of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, charged the fresh students to refrain from actions that would jeopardise their academic journey and the peace they enjoyed in the university community.

"Have a positive attitude towards your academic and social life, not forgetting your religious beliefs," he stated.

Prof. Bondzi-Simpson said the university received a presidential charter in August last year to function as an autonomous institution capable of awarding its own degrees and certificates.

Prior to this, he said, the university remained under the mentorship of other higher educational institutions and served as a training post that allowed others to award certificates and degrees.

"It is our expectation that Methodist University Ghana would be reckoned as one of the best universities in Africa," he added.

He noted that the university was now in a position to be ranked together with other schools in status and reputation.

Prof. Bondzi-Simpson said the university had other campuses in Tema and Wenchi, adding that the number of fresh students admitted in all three campuses of the university recorded a higher percentage of females enrolled into the institution.

He expressed joy and congratulated parents for allowing the girl-child education agenda to thrive.

One of the fresh students, Jennifer Afful, said the students were expecting academic excellence through quality teaching and healthy student-teacher relationships devoid of harassment, intimidation and fear.

"We hope for passionate and dedicated lecturers who inspire us, guide us and ignite our curiosity to explore new realms of knowledge," she added.
