The occasion is expected to offer opportunity for citizens of the area living in abroad to come home and contribute their quota to assist develop the community.

Abokobi is a community of people who are predominantly of the Presbyterian faith. It was founded in 1854 by the Basel Mission on a land that was acquired previously by the Mission as a ground for evangelisation.

Anniversary

The second anniversary of the Gbijuroyeli Festival was on the theme, “Harnessing our resources to rebuild Abokobi’’.

In a presentation, the Director of the Presbyterian Women’s Centre at Abokobi, Rev. Esther Adjetey, said the theme was chosen based on feedback received from  last year’s occasion, prompting the need for the community to reflect and resolve to restore good moral values such as discipline, respect, commitment and cleanliness, which were distinctive characteristics that made Abokobi unique in all respects.

Rev. Esther Adjetey said it was a delight that the search for an event that could draw the people together to spearhead efforts to develop the area had finally been realised after many years.

She, therefore, urged all citizens of Abokobi to rally support for the festival.

Among activities that the people will engage in during the celebration are a health walk, fundraising, clean- up exercises, a symposium, a school art competition and a Bible quiz. The occasion is to be climaxed with a Remembrance Day and Thanksgiving Service on October 5, 2014.
