Accra floods: Parts of Tse Addo submerged

The Monday rains have caused flooding in parts of Tse Addo in Accra, leaving large sections of the community submerged and disrupting the movement of residents, motorists and pedestrians.

The flooding affected the Zion area, Safari Homes and surrounding communities, where roads became impassable after hours of continuous rainfall. Several houses and shops were submerged, forcing some occupants to evacuate, while vehicles were trapped in floodwaters.

The flooding is also reported to have caused the collapse of some walls.

The situation is believed to have been caused by the overflowing Kpeshie Lagoon, choked drains, poor drainage systems and unplanned development in parts of the community.

Many residents were stranded as floodwaters continued to rise, making it impossible for them to leave their homes or access major roads. Some commuters were also trapped, while motorists abandoned their vehicles in flooded areas.

Residents have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide immediate rescue and relief for those affected by the flooding.
