Professor Dr Ankrah Badu, a haematologist, was conducting the midnight service to usher in the New Year when he collapsed. He was quickly revived by the some doctors who were present at the service.

According to some congregants, after he had been revived, he was able drive to his house at Community 10.

Death

Prof. Badu later called a friend (a doctor) to pick him up to Narh Bita Hospital at Tema Community Four. It is said that he walked by himself from the car to the hospital. After initial checks, he was admitted and infusions were administered to him.

At 4:30 a.m., the doctors at the hospital observed that his condition was deteriorating. Try as they did, Professor Badu died at 5:05 a.m. on January 1, 2016.

Mood
The mood at the Tema Joint Church yesterday, the first Sunday of the year, was sombre.

Congregants were visibly in shock and some expressed their surprise at the sudden nature of his death.

"It is God's will. In all things, we give thanks,” said one worshiper. Another member of the church remarked, "I could not eat the whole day when I heard the news. It is really sad.”

At his Community 10 residence, friends and acquaintances of the reverend minister were seen empathising with the family.
