A bust has been erected in her honour at Anum, her home town in the Eastern Region.

The 92-year-old was commended and praised by the chiefs and people of the community for bringing them honour.

DCE for Asuogyaman

Briefing the media, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asuogyaman, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, said the Anum community would not wait for Mrs Okoh to die before they would celebrate her.

He noted that she had been a source of inspiration to many in her community, the country and the world at large.

Even though Mr Nyarko admitted that it was right to honour hardworking citizens when they died, he said there was the need to honour them during their life time.

“We the people of Anum and Asuogyaman will not wait until she dies before honouring her. She needs to see it while alive,” he stressed.

Education

Commenting on the performance of students in the district, Mr Nyarko said it was very abysmal, and that the situation was worrisome.

He, however, stated that he had put measures in place to help resolve the situation, adding that a committee had been set up to review the performance of the students and provide the needed assistance.

He charged parents in the community to do their best to resolve the situation, adding: “It is not enough to pay school fees as a parent. You are expected to do more.”

A call on chiefs

Mr Nyarko called on the chiefs in the area to be united in whatever they would do, adding that disunity may deprive the community of development.

He further charged the community to create a fund to help with development projects in the town.

The occasion was used to raise funds with the aim of buying an ambulance for the clinic in the town and to construct the main road that leads to the clinic.

Theodosia Okoh

Mrs Okoh urged students to study hard and live responsible lives, noting that “it is impossible to be successful without hard work.”
