
Binduri: Police explain how 2 policemen were shot dead by suspected robbers and their private motorcycles taken away
Two policemen were shot dead on Sunday [April 13, 2025,] by suspected armed robbers in Poyamirea near Binduri in the Upper East Region.
The deceased were said to be in mufti (plain clothes) and were on private motorbikes travelling from Bongo to Binduri when they were attacked, shot and killed and their motorbikes taken away.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service said a manhunt operation was underway for the attackers.
The police expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
The statement assured the public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be arrested and made to face justice.
Another man killed and burnt beyond recognition
In a related development, an unidentified man was also shot dead on Sunday in Binduri by some unknown gunmen.
Subsequently, the assailants set the deceased and his motorcycle ablaze and left the scene.
Some residents discovered the charred body of the man, who had been burnt beyond recognition.
Curfew review
Meanwhile, the Minister for the Interior based on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and by an Executive Instrument has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on the Binduri township and its environs from 6pm to 6 am with immediate effect.
Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the youth have been urged to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use of non-violent means to channel their grievances.
As a result, there is a total ban on the carrying of arms and any offensive weapon in public.
The wearing of smock is also banned. Any person found with arms is to be arrested and prosecuted.
Additionally, the movement of motorcycles, tricycles (aboboyaa), and the like are banned for both men and women and that any person found riding them will be arrested and prosecuted.
