The Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD) has advised employees not to divulge any personal or financial information to anyone claiming to represent the office without verifying their identity.
It added that employees must remain vigilant at all times and said the CAGD does not charge any fees for the services it provides to government employees.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at the CAGD, Cephas N. Dosoo, indicated that any calls requesting payment for services from the department were fraudulent and should be ignored.
"We strongly advise all employees to remain vigilant and cautious, and to not divulge any personal or financial information to anyone claiming to represent our office without verifying their identity. For any clarifications or concerns, we encourage government employees to reach out to the Controller and Accountant-General's Department directly," the statement added.
While cautioning employees to be wary of scammers and fraudsters, the CAGD alerted the public, particularly government employees paid by the department on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Database (IPPD), on the disturbing trend which, the statement said, involved unscrupulous individuals posing as staff members of the department.
These individuals, according to the statement have been making calls to government employees, demanding payment for services, particularly payroll-related services.

It said the CAGD does not charge any fees for the services it provided to government employees and stated that any calls requesting payment for these services were fraudulent and should be ignored.
The statement further urged everyone to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
It also encouraged government employees to reach out to the CAGD directly at the following contact numbers or the official electronic mail.
