Curfew at Bunkpurugu-Yonyoo over renewed chieftaincy clashes

The Ministry of Interior has imposed a curfew on Bunkpurugu-Yonyoo in the Northern Region following the violent clashes between two feuding parties in a chieftaincy dispute that led to the death of two persons and the burning down of several houses on Sunday night.

The 4pm to 6am curfew would continue to be renewed until relative calm returns to the area.

According to the sector minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, the curfew was imposed following recommendations by the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

He explained that the 4pm to 6am curfew was imposed because some people take advantage of the poor lighting system in the night to engage in shooting.

Therefore the curfew is to enable the security forces deployed in the area to take absolute control of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Ken Yeboah has debunked reports making rounds that there was a renewed clash in the area on Monday

He said one of the feuding parties in the dispute went to bury one of the persons who died during the clashes and they started firing into the air.

DCOP Mr Yeboah confirmed that security has been beefed up in the area and calm has returned to the area.
