Dansoman presby marks anniversary

The Dansoman congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Sunday walked through some streets of Dansoman in Accra as part of activities marking its 40th anniversary celebration. The year-long celebration, themed: “40 Years of Existence: The Fruit of the Holy Spirit in Our Congregation”, will also have activities such as games; quiz, blood donation, gospel rock show, cultural week, family day out, and a visit to the Bawjiase Home.

Led by the District Minister, Rev. Patrick Asare Ayensu, the large congregation paid a visit to the family house of Mrs Lucy Anie Budu, of blessed memory, where the idea of the conception of the church started.

According to Mrs Mercy Anie Laryea, a founder member of the church and a cousin of the late Madam Lucy, in 1974, her family and other Presbyterians in their neighbourhood thought of the idea to establish the Dansoman branch of the church considering the challenges they had at the time.

“We used to worship with the Kaneshie congregation, and looking at the poor state of the road and the distance we had to cover before we get to Kaneshie, we thought it was right to establish a branch, even considering the growing numbers”, she said.

Mrs Anie Laryea, who was full of joy, said the church which started at the balcony of the late Anie Bubu with only 15 members had now grown into a large congregation.

Rev. Patrick Asare Ayensu in his sermon called on the congregation to be concerned about the great commission which mandated them to go out and preach the good news which would change the society.
