Dormaahene marks 50th birthday

Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region was full of life when a royal party was organised to mark the 50th birthday of the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu.

The Dormaahene, who is known in private life as Mr Daniel Mensah, ascended the throne at age 33 and thus marked his 50th birthday with pomp and circumstance at the Abampredease Palace.

Adorned in an all-white apparel, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu was joined by the Queenmother of the traditional area, Nana Kosua Fima Dwabeng, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, and the Minister of Tourism and Rural Development, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to celebrate the day.

Others included a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, and the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Justice Samuel Adjei.

With songs provided by Mrs Florence Obinim and other local artistes, the entire town erupted into a frenzy with the people dancing deep into the night.

In such a liberal atmosphere, the chief ignored courtesies accorded chiefs as he mingled with athe people who thronged the palace to celebrate the occasion with him.

Address

Addressing the gathering earlier, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu thanked God for protecting him throughout the past 50 years.

“I am also grateful to elders of the Dormaa Traditional Area for giving me the chance to serve my people for the past 17 years”, he stated.

He recounted successes chalked up during his reign and attributed the achievements to the support of the elders, the government and non-governmental institutions and the entire people of the traditional area.

The Dormaa Traditional Area covers Dormaa Central, Dormaa East, Dormaa West and parts of the Sunyani Municipality and the Sunyani West District.

Birthday cake

Osagyefo Agyeman Badu was joined by Alhaji Collins Dauda, Mrs Ofosu-Adjare, and Nana Fima Dwabeng to cut his 50th birthday anniversary cake amid singing of the popular “Happy Birthday to you” song by the entire gathering.
