Quansah also known as Joe, 24, did not get away with his actions as the Agona Swedru Court, presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong, sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The judge found Quansah guilty on two counts of assault and threat of death and was sentenced to two years and four years imprisonment to run concurrently.
Mr Sampong further ordered Quansah to compensate his wife with GH¢200.
The facts of the case as presented by Inspector Emmanuel Ocran were that the complainant, Hannah Abekah, also known as Ama Akyere and Quansah had been in a relationship for three years and had a nine-month old son between them.
Inspector Ocran told the court that Akyere operates a provisions store at Gomoa Tarkwa while Quansah is a driver.
He described Quansah as a violent person who beats his wife at the least provocation.
He said on January 14, 2014, Quansah gave money to Akyere to buy food for both of them to eat and left for town.
He returned later in the night heavily drunk and requested that Akyere should go home with him so they could go to bed.
The prosecutor said Akyere told Quansah to take the lead which did not go down well with him and so he started beating her.
Inspector Ocran further stated that Quansah went ahead and placed an ice chest and other items on their baby in the store and threatened to kill the baby and his mother in the presence of witnesses.
A witness managed to enter the store and rescue the baby.
The incident was reported to the police and Quansah was arrested.
