Suspects laid ambush

Addressing a news conference in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Christian Tettey Yohuno, said the suspected robbers, wielding two pistols, entered the family’s house at about 2 a.m. on September 10, 2014. However, they were unable to enter the living room of the family who stayed indoors till 6a.m. while their dogs barked at the suspects while on their premises.

At a point, the two men turned on the taps on the compound and left them running, probably to get the attention of their victims.

Mr Yohuno said when the family assumed that the suspected robbers had left, they opened their doors. The robbers then pounced on them, entered their rooms and took away five mobile phones, three laptops, an ipad and jewellery.

The robbers also took away GH¢1,034, $2,100 and unspecified amount of foreign currencies.

Mr Yohuno said the robbers attempted raping the pregnant wife of the owner of the house and his two daughters.

“While the robbers were escaping, he said “the owner of the house gave them a hot chase which attracted the attention of other residents in the vicinity who joined in the chase.”

In addition to the two pistols, weapons and implements retrieved from the suspects include seven screw drivers, three cutters, 30 rounds of ammunition, a pair of pliers, scissors and super glue.

According to the Accra Regional Police Commander, the two suspects had engaged in other robberies, including car snatching at Pokuase, Odorkor and other parts of Accra.
