Fined by Traffitech-GH? Here's how to pay or challenge it

With the Ghana Police Service's Traffitech-GH automated enforcement system now operational, motorists who receive an Electronic Notice of Violation via SMS are being guided on the official procedures to either pay their fines or formally contest the offence.

Upon receiving an ENV, offenders are first advised to verify the Sender ID, which must read GPS-MTTD.

The message will contain a Ticket Number, the location, date, and time of the offence, the vehicle registration number, the offence description, the payment amount, and the payment deadline. Motorists are warned that messages from any other sender ID or those containing clickable links are likely scams and should not be acted upon.

How to pay your Traffitech-GH fine

Motorists have 14 days from the issuance date to settle their fines. Payment can be made electronically through the official portal at www.ghana.gov.gh using mobile money on MTN, Telecel, or AirtelTigo, or via a debit or credit card.

Alternatively, offenders can dial the USSD shortcode *710*0# and follow the prompts to complete the payment. Once payment is successfully processed, a confirmation receipt will be sent via SMS.

To avoid inconvenience at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, motorists are advised to check for any outstanding fines by dialling *220# before visiting DVLA offices.

Failure to pay within the 14-day window will result in a late payment penalty of 1 per cent of the original fine for each day of default. Furthermore, the DVLA will not renew a driver's licence or process vehicle registration, transfer, or roadworthiness inspections until all outstanding Traffitech-GH fines are cleared.

How to contest a violation

Motorists who believe they have been wrongly fined can contest the violation online within 14 days of the issuance date. The process begins by reviewing the evidence at https://traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, where the offender enters their Ticket Number and selects the option to view the photo or video evidence and other violation data.

If the motorist still wishes to proceed, they must start the contest procedure online, selecting their preferred MTTD regional police station and date.

It is important to note that contest procedures cannot be initiated at GPS-MTTD or Judicial Service offices. After submitting the contest online, an officer will contact the motorist to arrange an appointment, after which a court hearing will be scheduled. Offenders must bring their ENV reference number and a valid form of identification to the hearing.

Motorists may need to provide their Ticket Number, vehicle registration number, contact details, and any supporting documents, such as a police report where applicable. It is crucial to note that once a fine is paid, the violation is considered settled and can no longer be contested.

For those without internet access, evidence can be viewed by calling the Traffitech-GH Call Centre on 059 692 2402. Suspicious messages or requests for payment to personal mobile money accounts should be reported to the Police on 191 or 18555 (toll-free).
