Fire destroys Dormaa Akwamu Methodist School

Fire has destroyed the six-unit classroom block of the Dormaa Akwamu Methodist Basic School in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region.

The incident has displaced over 218 pupils who attend the school.

The blaze, which occurred during the Christmas break, destroyed books, furniture, and other educational materials.

With the school having reopened on January 8, over 218 learners and staff have been left stranded as school authorities try to find alternative arrangements to enable school sessions to take place.

Appeal

The Head teacher of the school, Datus Kwadwo Manu, has appealed for urgent support to rebuild the classrooms.

“The classrooms are not usable in their current state. We will need support to rebuild the classrooms as a matter of urgency.

“At the moment, we are waiting to see what the district assembly and directorate would do in the interim.

“As you can see, we have no furniture for both the learners and teachers to use, even if we want to hold classes,” Mr Manu stated.

The Chairman of the School’s Management Committee, Peter Boakye Asiedu, also called on stakeholders to assist in restoring the school to its functional state.

“We appeal to the church and all other stakeholders to lend support not only to restoring the building but also providing the basic logistics as a matter of emergency so that the children will not miss out on school this term,” Mr Boakye said.
