The beneficiary transport unions included Tiger Transport Services, Santa Maria branch of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), Chantan Taxi and Trotro Drivers Union, Anyaa Terminal and Alhaji-Tabora branch of the GPRTU.
Maintain sanitation
Handing over the items in Accra, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga Central municipality, Mr Aristo Aryee, said the presentation of the bins was part of measures aimed at ensuring proper sanitation practices at the lorry stations and other areas of the assembly.
“Maintaining sanitation in public areas such as transport stations is a challenge which confronts the assembly,” he said. He was optimistic that the bins would help the transport unions to keep their respective stations clean.
He pledged that the assembly would provide more bins to the transport yards in the municipality and urged the transport managers to use the bins for the intended purposes.
Gratitude
Receiving the items on behalf of the transport unions, the Secretary of the Alhaji-Tabora branch of the GPRTU, Mr Anthony Acquah, expressed gratitude to the assembly and gave an assurance that the dustbins would be placed at vantage points at the various lorry stations.
“Indeed, the management and drivers of the lorry stations have recognised the assembly’s effort to ensure the proper maintenance of sanitation at the lorry stations. Now we have containers in which we can collect rubbish from our various cars without dumping it in the stations,” he added.
