Known as Radio Latenu, the station, which would broadcast its programmes in the Ga language, was established by the ‘Latenu’, a coined name for La, Teshie, and Nungua Development Association.

The event was attended by distinguished personalities including  Mr K. B. Asante and the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer Buckle, said it was important for Gas to cherish and uphold their culture, adding that the station would be a very good channel to educate people on Ga history, language and customs.

“As the capital city, Accra has a diverse culture, but we have to teach the young ones the Ga language, culture and customs in order to maintain and preserve our identity,” he said.

 Uphold Professionalism

Most Rev. Palmer Buckle advised the management of the station to be professional in their operations.

“You must uphold the ethics in the media industry because as a community radio station, your programmes must help bring development to the communities and people that you serve,” he said.

Touching on the importance of the station, the acting Manager, Mr Daniel Nii Amon Hammond, stated that Radio Latenu would also be used to educate the Ga communities on how to employ best practices in activities such as fishing and farming.
