Ga West Assembly supports Homowo
The Ga West Municipal Assembly (GWMA) has presented food items and assorted drinks to an association of traditional chiefs in the municipality towards the celebration of this year’s Homowo.
It included 50 bags of maize, 20 gallons of cooking oil, quantities of Schnapps and soft drinks. The assembly also presented an undisclosed amount of money to the association.
Homowo
The Homowo Festival is mainly celebrated by the Gas, starting from the month of May with the planting of crops before the rainy season.
It is celebrated in remembrance of the famine that once occurred in the history of the Ga people in precolonial Ghana.
Gesture
The Municipal Chief Executive of GWMA, Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, explained that the gesture was to appreciate the continuous support the assembly was receiving from the chiefs.
“The chiefs requested for the President’s assistance towards the festival, and the assembly has responded to their request,” he indicated.
The chief executive advised the people to use the festival to foster unity and peace and admonished the youth not to allow the euphoria of the festival to lead them into unlawful acts.
Commendation
On behalf of the association, the Chief of Amasaman, Nii Amasa Oseiko, commended the assembly for the support.
