Ghana Gas wins Green Era Award

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has been adjudged the winner of this year’s “Green Era Award” at the Green Economy Forum in Berlin, Germany.

The company received the award after it was selected based on periodic reports, polls and voting processes carried out by the marketing team of Association Otherways Management & Consulting in Paris and other consulting firms in Europe.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, and the Director of Operations, Mr Robert Kofi Lartey, received the award on behalf of the company at a gala dinner last Sunday night at the Intercontinental Hotel in Berlin.

Selection process

According to the Paris-based Association Otherways Management & Consulting, organisers of the award, Ghana Gas was selected following a process that included voting carried out by mail, Internet or within awarded companies. 

The selection process was based on customer satisfaction, leadership, sustainability reporting, business results, total quality management and green initiatives for green achievements and to recognise innovation, quality and outstanding environmental achievements in sustainable practices.

“In addition to the voting process, Association Otherways Management & Consulting – France and Otherways International Research & Consultants gather information through consultation of the media (press, radio and television), consultancy companies, advertising agencies, trade fairs and exhibits, chamber of commerce, embassies, polls, including the online macro poll, which is analysed by “The Green Era Award” Selection Committee which makes the final decision to select the annual awardees,” a statement from the organisers said.

Recognition

The recognition of Ghana Gas comes four months after the CEO of the company emerged as the most outstanding Ghana Oil and Gas Awards (GOGA 2015) Personality of the Year last December. The company also earned nominations in four categories of the awards for the same year.

The CEO was also voted Best CEO for the upstream sector at the Ghana Oil and Gas Awards in 2014.

The company has also won several awards, including the prestigious international “ESQR’s Quality Achievements Award” in Quality Management by the European Society for Quality Research in 2015, “Best Enterprise 2014” in the field of gas industry by Oxford-based Socrates Committee and the Global Gas Flaring Reduction (GGFR) “Excellence in Flaring Reduction” in 2012.

Ghana Gas has since its incorporation in July 2011 supervised the design, construction and operation of Ghana’s premier gas processing plant and enabled the country to monetise and utilise domestic natural gas resources to accelerate national industrialisation by providing cost competitive natural gas and gas-based products for the domestic markets.
