Another fire incident at Accra Academy

There was another fire incident on the campus of Accra Academy on Tuesday night, a few days after a similar incident on the campus.

Graphic Online’s Emmanuel Bonney  reported that the fire was at the Alema Hall and that the fire started around 7:30 pm.

The students were said to have spotted the smoke around 7 pm and run to safety .

Two fire tenders responded to the distress call and fire personnel were still battling the fire when Graphic Online arrived on the campus at about 8 pm Tuesday [January 28, 2020].

All the students had been evacuated from the hall when Graphic Online got to the campus.

There were no reported incident of injuries.

Graphic Online's Emmanuel Bonney reported that the Alema Hall, is one of the traditional halls of Accra Academy, a second cycle institution near Kaneshie in Accra.

The fire, the second in about two weeks, happened about 7:30 p.m. when the students were studying.

It is exactly two weeks ago on January 15, 2020 around the same time that sections of the Alema and Halm Addo halls were gutted by fire.

At the time the Graphic Online got to the scene at about 8 p.m. the entire Alema Hall was in flames, destroying school property and other personal effects of the students.

They included trunks, beds and books.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were fighting the fire. There were also personnel from the Ghana Police Service at the scene.

The students had converged on the Ofori Adjei Square discussing the issue as the fire raged.

Huge blasts

In separate interviews with some of the students, they said they were studying when they started hearing huge blasts from their dormitories section.

"We were studying and all of a sudden we started hearing huge blasts. We came out only to see Alema Hall in flames," one of the students said.

An old student, Nii Boye Okine, told Graphic Online that he was shocked at the turn of events in the school after a similar outbreak in the early part of the year.

"We the old students met last Saturday to see how best we could help after the last outbreak, only to experience this again," he said.
There was no casualty.
