The donation, made up of variety of school supplies, were presented by the Managing Director of Panbros Salt Industries Limited, Michael Odartey-Wellington.
Obligation
Leading a delegation to make the presentation, Mr Odartey-Wellington said the gesture was in response to an appeal for sponsorship by an NGO, Gifted Youth
Organisation International, to support less privileged children in the Ga South Municipality.
He said management of the Panbros Salt Industries Limited, assessing the request, felt obliged to support the children under the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) aim.
Mr Odartey-Wellington emphasised the importance of education in every child’s life.
He reiterated that the foundation of every child’s education was critical, and that it was very important that it was properly taken care of at the primary school level to enable the child get the right start in their academic journey

He further noted that though the government was supporting second cycle schools with the free senior high school (SHS), there was little or no support for basic schools so it was important for all who had what it took to support the basic schools.
“Basic school is the foundation and it is important that the pupils get the right and solid foundation, so they can build on as they go up the academic ladder.
“Unfortunately, the basic level is not getting the same attention and support as is being done for the free SHS so it is important for all of us to support, particularly those in deprived areas,” Mr Odartey-Wellington stated.
Shared responsibility
The Municipal Director of Education for Ga South, Henry Ayetse, who received the items on behalf of the directorate, said supporting the deprived and vulnerable to also have access to basic needs and services such as education was a shared responsibility.

Mr Ayetse said the supplies would go a long way in supporting schoolchildren in the deprived communities within the Ga South Municipality, and gave the assurance that the items would be given to the intended beneficiaries.
