Presidency fulfils pledge to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital

The Presidency has presented a cheque for GH¢ 97,450.16 to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) in honour of a pledge made to the hospital when it was overstretched during the Dompoase accident in the Central Region.

The accident which occurred in January this year claimed 34 lives and injured more than 50 passengers.

The management of the hospital braved the odds despite its minimal resources and adequately handled the situation.

The Presidency, impressed by the hospital's dedication and commitment to health delivery, pledged to support the hospital.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan, who presented the cheque to the hospital's management last Wednesday, said it was commendable how the hospital, led by its chief executive officer marshalled all resources to bring the situation under control, putting lives above monetary considerations.

COVID-19

Touching on the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Duncan said the region had set up three treatment centres at the CCTH, Dunkwa and Ajumako hospitals, while every district or municipality had a holding or quarantine centre.

He said the regional coordinating council had also intensified education while the district assemblies had provided some basic support with handwashing facilities at critical institutions.

He advised the public to adhere to the basic health instructions given to them and to observe the social distancing rule.

The Chief Executive Officer of CCTH, Dr Eric Ngyedu, thanked the President and the regional minister for the show of support during the period.
