The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Ghana has received $250,000 in relief assistance from the Economic Community of West African States to support victims of the June 2026 floods.
In a statement Mr Ablakwa said the donation was announced during the inauguration of Ghana's National Consultative Committee on Regional Integration of ECOWAS, which has the mandate to oversee the regional integration and social interventions of ECOWAS in Ghana.
He said the full ECOWAS donation of $250,000, about GH¢3 million, was directly transferred to the accounts of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency to administer to the flood victims.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Organisation agreed to select ADRA as an independent implementing partner, and government will not be involved in the selection of who benefits from the relief package.
The ECOWAS contribution is expected to provide assistance to people whose livelihoods and homes were affected by the June floods, as government agencies and relief organisations continue efforts to respond to the disaster.
The floods, which occurred on June 29, 2026, affected more than 38,000 people across the Greater Accra Region, displaced over 7,700 households, and claimed at least 15 lives.
