The suspect, Jerry Quianu, is said to have been hiding in the bush by the sides of the road between GIMPA and Legon and attacking  his victims.

He was arrested by a  police officer at a snap checkpoint while he was hiding in the bush near GIMPA.

A hammer believed to be the implement he used to break the windows of the cars of his victims or to threaten them was found on him.

Series of complaints

The Tesano District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Lydia Donkor, said the suspect was arrested at about 8:30 pm on November 28, 2014.

She said the police had been receiving series of complaints from victims whose bags had been snatched on the GIMPA- Legon road and sometimes near the roundabout near the Achimota forest.

She said an identification parade was organised on December 8, 2014 and a victim who was attacked on November 26, 2014 on the GIMPA road while she was driving identified the suspect.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the Achimota School Police that at 8 pm on November 26, 2014 while she was driving through GIMPA  to Legon, a man emerged from the bush and grabbed her bag, which was in the front passenger seat of her car and went back into the bush.

The bag contained the victim’s and her children’s passports, a voter’s identification card and an unspecified amount of money.

"She identified the suspect as the one who had grabbed her bag. Since his arrest there has not been a single case of bag snatching in the area.
