Girl 20, arrested for car theft

The police in Accra have arrested a 20 year-old woman for allegedly stealing a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The suspect, whose name was given as Abigail Asiedu, was said to have gone into a hotel to have fun with her lover.

Whilst the lover was asleep, she took the key to the vehicle and with the help of one Bashiru Ishmael, said to be her boyfriend, they bolted with the car. Bashiru Ishmael is, however, at large.

Briefing the media, the Accra Regional Police Command, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohunu said the victim after realizing that his partner was no where to be found in the hotel room, went outside only to find that his car was not there.

He [victim] then lodged a complaint with the police.

According to DCOP Yohunu, the suspect had earlier been arrested by the Baatsona, Klagon and Dahwenya police this year for using the same method to steal a Honda Civic CRV, Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Camry from some victims.

He explained that the suspect's mode of operation was to lure her victims into hotel rooms and whilst they slept, she sneaks out and drive their cars away.

He said Abigail, who had been stealing vehicles for some months now, normally changed the number plates and sold it to one of her accomplice Nuhu Adams.
